GGL Announces Second Float and Wet Coater Lines in Ankleshwar, India

New investment strengthens local manufacturing and supports rising demand for architectural glass in India

Ankleshwar, India | May 14, 2026

Gujarat Guardian Limited (GGL), a joint venture between Guardian Industries and Modi Rubber Limited, marked today the groundbreaking of its second float glass line and wet coater facility at its Ankleshwar plant, signalling a major step forward in expanding India’s glass manufacturing capabilities.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2028, subject to project timelines. Once operational, the new energy-efficient air-fuel fired float glass line will add a capacity of 1,000 metric tons per day, enabling production of a wide range of glass thicknesses and larger formats designed to help improve customer yield and processing efficiency.

This groundbreaking marks a significant milestone in our growth journey in India,” said Guus Boekhoudt, Executive Vice President, Guardian Glass. “This investment is not only about expanding capacity, but also about bringing advanced technology, improving supply reliability, and supporting our customers with high-quality, value-added glass solutions.

In addition, GGL will install a new wet coater with a capacity of 72,000 metric tons annually. The facility will feature advanced mirror manufacturing technology with single and double paint coating capabilities, along with fully automated handling, packing, and logistics systems to enhance throughput and help ensure consistent quality.

Once completed, the Ankleshwar facility will serve as a key integrated hub for float, mirror, and value-added coated glass products, supporting supply reliability and responsiveness for customers across India.

By consolidating advanced manufacturing capabilities at a single location, GGL aims to strengthen its role as a reliable partner to India’s growing construction and infrastructure sectors while delivering long-term value to customers and stakeholders.
