Accessible lower carbon glass

Guardian NEXA™ 9 is a lower carbon float glass solution designed to help reduce the embodied carbon of facades and windows—without losing sight of budget realities. With a third-party verified embodied carbon value of just 8.58 kg CO₂eq/m² for 4 mm thickness (as confirmed by an Environmental Product Declaration), Guardian NEXA 9 delivers approximately 16%* lower embodied carbon than the average European standard float glass.

Guardian NEXA 9 is produced on a regular basis to help maintain dependable availability. This means Guardian NEXA 9 lead times have the ability to support project timelines and better predictably. This remains valid when Guardian NEXA 9 is used as a base glass for coated glass products, helping you access lower embodied carbon, energy efficient solutions without the delays that may be associated with special orders.

One way to lower the embodied carbon of glass is by increasing the amount of cullet—broken or rejected glass—in the raw materials. However, this isn’t the only approach and should only be considered as a part of a wholistic strategy to reduce the embodied carbon of float glass. How the furnace is designed and which melting technology is used, the sourcing, and use of raw materials, and the efficiency and productivity of the line, all have significant impacts on the embodied carbon. Cullet availability can be limited and vary across regions. By introducing Guardian NEXA 9, a lower carbon glass solution that supports cullet use optimization across our production lines—we help make lower carbon glass accessible for more projects and applications, more consistently.

Guardian NEXA 9 is a good solution for architects, cladders, investors, window professionals or other businesses committed to improving their environmental performance, or for projects looking for lower carbon materials, without having a significant impact on the overall budget of a project.

* The A1-A3 embodied carbon value for Guardian NEXA 9 was derived from the EPD and verified for conformance to ISO 14040/44, EN 15804, and the Product Category Rules (PCR) through a program operator and independent reviewer. As of May 2025, when comparing the cradle-to-gate (A1 - A3) embodied carbon value of Guardian Europe's NEXA 9 float glass vs. an average calculated from publicly available EPDs from the primary European flat glass manufacturers, the calculated reduction is approximately 16%.  This comparison is not based on a third-party verified comparative life cycle assessment (LCA). This comparison is based on internal calculations using publicly available EPDs and acknowledges that not all EPDs use the same methodologies, assumptions, and data quality requirements.
