Bird1st ETCH

Effective Deterrent with design Flexibility.
Guardian Bird1st ETCH glass features acid-etched patterns to help you achieve several looks across a wide array of SunGuard low-E coatings. Patterns are applied to surface 1 with the low-E coating on surface 2, together creating a double-sided solution without the need for lamination. Stocking programs for the most popular combinations can help projects with tight timelines.

Bring balance to your vision

A bird-friendly* façade involves give and take. In addition to choosing a product that can help provide the desired level of collision deterrence, you’ve got to weigh the importance of other factors. Chief among them is looks and energy performance. With Bird1st ETCH, the subtle acid-etched deterrent patterns have a satin-like, matte appearance that can blend into the facade. The building’s glazing aesthetics and energy performance can be fine-tuned by pairing Bird1st ETCH glass with many of our SunGuard™ low-E coatings and substrate tints. Consult our ABC approval letter for available options.

With Bird1st ETCH, the deterrent material is positioned on surface 1, shown by research** to be the optimal location for deterrent efficacy because this location has the best chance of interrupting the glass reflection. Also in its optimal position, the low-E on surface 2 has an easier time blocking solar heat from entering the building. By having both the deterrent and solar control coatings on the same piece of glass, cost may be reduced when compared to alternatives that require lamination.

*The American Bird Conservancy defines “bird-friendly” materials as those with a Threat Factor score of ≤30.
