The NEW Bird1st™ UV

BIRD-FRIENDLY GLASS. DESIGNED WITH PEOPLE IN MIND.
For a product called Bird1st, we spend an extraordinary amount of time considering people. Views are valuable, both inside and out. Bird1st UV glass was brought into being to help you manage budgets and meet building requirements—all while placing an emphasis on clean, unobstructed and pleasingly transparent looks. It is, in short, a bird-friendly* solution for creating beautifully unified facades for people to enjoy.

Aesthetics, on the ascent

The NEW Bird1st UV glass features a leading patterned UV coating, able to reflect upwards of 75% of UV light, while achieving the lowest level of visibility to humans in our bird-friendly portfolio. Many alternative UV coatings reflect only ~30% of UV light.** The surface 1 coating is paired with a required surface 2 lamination which absorbs >99% in the areas where it isn’t being reflected, to boost the UV contrast further. Integrated together, these features are extremely hard for people to see, yet have earned a Threat Factor score of ≤25† from the American Bird Conservancy.

This bird-friendly solution can help lower installed IGU costs (compared to our previous offering, Legacy 2-inch stripes) by helping fabricators get the most yield from each stock sheet. This is achieved through a new non-direction bird-friendly pattern and a new jumbo-sized stock sheet, both of which can contribute to improved part nesting and cutting yields. The NEW Bird1st UV glass also pairs with a variety of SunGuard™ low-E coatings that can help meet energy performance goals.

*The American Bird Conservancy defines “bird-friendly” materials as those with a Threat Factor score of ≤30.
**Guardian Glass proprietary testing.
†Based on specific low-E combination. Subject to change. Please refer to our ABC approval letters for our latest performance number.
